About Shannon's Approach

Do you wonder
"Are we a fit?"

Or maybe you're thinking,
“I want to try everything!
Where do I start?”

You can book a free 15 minute call first, or try out a group session, or dive right into your personal work.

Ground-first method
All my methods are rooted in non-judgmental, choice-based, parasympathetic nervous system engagement. This rest, relax, and heal system is opposite of the fight or flight system. Grounding allows your inner wisdom to naturally arise and address blocks from a new angle, instead of from stressed-based thinking that drives us in one direction which is not necessarily our highest path.

The ground of the earth is here for us, and we can ground in the depths of our inner being.

Why it's powerful
Our neo-capitalist patriarchal culture has taught us that mind and body are separate, and mental health is often just focused on the mind. Body work is often separate from the mind. Spiritual work is too often separate. But our minds and our bodies are one unit, interconnected by millions of cells of all tissues, and by the possibly most influential, the vagus nerve. I work somatically (with the body) and in the liminal (imaginative spaces and energetic places) to incorporate the wisdom of all parts of our being.

If enough of us get reconnected to our true nature and also in tune with outer nature, this world could feel a lot more like heaven and less like hell. It could feel like a community of laughing, inspired people who can also offer each other kleenex and shoulders in tough times. We can co-create webs of woven empathy, fun, and light.

My approach with new folks
My approach is to learn your way of being, and offer techniques that serve you.
I attune to how you respond as we explore a method, and we decide together what is most helpful.
You can even mix and match the location and method:
-
Sometimes we plan to meet outside and because of what you want to focus on, we end up doing emotion-centered work with less direct interaction with nature.
-
Sometimes we meet indoors and it’s more art-based and sometimes it’s more somatic.
-
Sometimes we plan to meet outside and the weather is too uncomfortable for you, so we meet inside and do nature therapy indoors with plants. It really depends on what you need.
You could read some of my Blogs to get a sense of how I approach the intersectionality of our inner nature, the Divine, and what happens in nature (including human relationships) around us.

Which of these are true… for you?

~ I need to be really heard and known.
~ I seek a shift from my repeated challenges.
~ I have already worked on myself and need a new kind of professional partnership for growth.
~ I’ve been on a life path seeking clarity and fulfillment, and am curious about more potential.
~ I feel totally weathered, and just need change!

Find hope, confidence, and peace.

Become more joyful, feel more free!
We choose techniques based on your dilemma, and what you want.
People who work with me want:
-
spaciousness & empathy as you talk,
-
embodied processing (drawing, role play, clay work, etc.),
-
inner parts work (mediated inner dialogue or a “committee of voices,” like Soulwork or Internal Family Systems),
-
compassionate communication with new strategies to meet needs,
-
and/or insight from deep Source.

Some request and enjoy take-home practices:
-
guided meditations or breathing techniques,
-
nature practices,
-
writing prompts for journal processing,
-
additional resources.
You can read my Bio to see how I gained a plethora of skills to help heal.
How is the approach to emotional counseling and sacred listening different?

There are some ways I support both processes the same, such as with compassionate, attentive presence and somatic and imaginal techniques listed above. And there can be differences.

If you want sacred listening, we meet about once a month for an extended period of time (a year or decade) as your life unfolds. We notice patterns and invitations. We listen for your relationship to the ultimate Source and navigate from both the micro and the macrocosm. It is more contemplative.

If you want emotional counseling to process a specific situation, we meet more frequently (once a week or two) for less duration (ex. 3-12 months).

Some folks start with one service and then shift to another as their life changes.
Is emotional counseling for me?
A. Most people have childhood wounds. 1. Some wounds are named as trauma, and some we simply recognize have shaped our behaviors and personality. 2. Wounds keep us from realizing our dreams, showing up in our adult life like present-day problems. Some folks find repeated challenges, feel frustrated, and wonder what’s at the root. 3. Some folks find that traditional talk therapy helped them understand and ease the pain, but not deeply heal their wounds. B. Most people want to enjoy their life more. (We want healthy relationships, holistic integration with the planet, and community purpose, belonging, and empowerment.) I could help you build your bridge from A to B.
Is sacred listening for me?
A. Some people seek communion with a form of Divinity or self-realization.  1. This communion feels weak, distant, fraught, or interrupted by adult life events, childhood wounding, or current local/global challenges. Or it feels good, but incomplete. 2. God/Spirit/Nature/Source/Zero/Divinity is totally and absolutely in love with you and ready to help you feel completely cared for, valuable, and belonging to this earthen community. 3. How do you get there? What is your path? B. There’s a human practice that reaches back thousands of years, currently called Spiritual Direction or Sacred Listening. It’s like a soul coach or mentor. Have you tried it? (We seek progress in life that isn’t based in external success but to an inner alignment with deep truth of Divine calling.) I could help as you row the boat into the sea or across the river toward the shore of abiding in Love/Trust/Communion.
Is nature therapy for me?
If you love nature, then yes. If you’re scared or feel uncomfortable in nature and you want that to be the focus of our work together, then yes. If you like nature most of the time, and we can make you feel comfortable in my private outdoor office, then yes. If you don’t often feel comfortable outside, or get distracted by nature, and you want to focus on emotions or interior experience, then let’s meet inside. 😊
